The Makita Combo 18-Volt LXT
I recently purchased a Makita LXT902 18-Volt LXT Cordless 9-Piece Combo Kit. Its great to get a new set of powerr tools, especially when there are some home projects that must be completed ASAP. I've never used the Makita Combo cordless tool line before, so I figured I better test them out. in all there are nine peices to the kit, 7 cordless power tools, a flashlight and a heavy duty construction site radio. The seven power tools are:
-Makita BHP452 Cordless 1/2-inch Hammer Driver/Drill
-Makita BHR240 7/8-inch Sds Plus Rotary Hammer
-Makita BTW251 Cordless 1/2-inch Impact Wrench
-Makita BSS611 Cordless 6-1/2-inch Circular Saw
-Makita BJR182 Cordless Reciprocating Saw
-Makita BGA452 4-1/2-inch Angle Grinder
-Makita BTD141 Cordless Impact Driver
The first project was to redo a section of our cedar plank fence that had been involved in a little accident last winter. And naturally when i mean accident, i mean i ripped out a huge piece of it with my truck. I was never in a real rush to fix it since the ground isn't very even and would have had to cut evry single plank to the right length. This was a perfect time to test out the Makita BSS611 Cordless 6-1/2-inch Circular Saw that came in the combo pack. Usually i have used my electric circular saw with an extension cord running from the outside outlet to the work place. I should truly express, it is an addes bonus to have a Cordless Saw. I've used Cordless Drills for years, it never even occurred to me to have a cordless saw. This one that came with the Makita Combo Kit had plenty of power to cut down thirty fence planks for me in no time, which is a big help when you're in a hurry to fix something.
After that section of the fence was back in place, I took out the Makita BGA452 4-1/2-inch Angle Grinder and went to work on some sharp edges on my metal shed. It cleaned the edges pretty fast, and has certainly enough power to make any length of cut through most light/medium gauge metal. Again i must express that the advantage of using a cordless power tool can never be overstated. I didn't think about it very much before when i would set up extension cords for my electric power tools but i know now nothing beats a cordless.
Now came the Rotary Hammer. There's no concrete or stone work in my schedule, but i would really like to test this tool out and besides busting up blocks is a good workout. I went straight out to the shed and gathered up some used bricks and concrete blocks and this tool was impressive. I know that its a simple test for tool thats this heavy duty, but it helps to know that the performance will be there when a much tougher job arises.
I haven't had a chance to play around with everything else in the Makita Combo pack yet, but everything I have used has impressed me. All the power tools are rugged and strongly built, and at the same time very simple to operate. What's really great is that the batteries will work with all the tools. That by itself deems this combo kit a worth while buy.
